To Be A Man

What does the society require for men to behave? Men have to be masculine, in that they can take on the world if it gets to that. They have to carry the world on their shoulders, no matter how heavy it is. They have to take responsibility of everyone around them. Men have to be protectors, providers, caretakers. They have to take on leadership roles from such a young age.

Men ain’t allowed to be vulnerable, they shouldn’t complain since their masculinity will be questioned. They should take on the hard tasks since that’s what they’re supposed to do. They shouldn’t be appreciated for the little things or even the major things they do since it’s their ‘responsibility’. Men aren’t supposed to show their weakness, and they shouldn’t ask for help. When a man gets tired, it means he’s not man enough and will be highly discriminated. Men should’t enjoy themselves or look for a hobby since that’s not manly. They shouldn’t have alone time and enjoy their space.

They’re taught that women are damsels in distress who should always be looked after. They’re taught that they should be at women’s disposal whenever they need them. They’re taught to cater for everyone around them but themselves. Men are to please the world cause that’s what they’re born to do. Men are taught to teach their sons the same principal so that the cycle can continue. They’re taught to be alone and no one can ever be there for them. They’re taught to rely on only themselves

We forget that they’re human beings with emotions and who deserve protection as well. They hold so much in and when they finally explode, we curse them to hell and back. Not once do we question what happened or why did they react the way they did. They’re people like us who deserve love, appreciation, a little help, a shoulder to lean on and what not. We should make them feel like they aren’t so alone and they’ll feel the difference. Some men become timid while others become rough and indifferent and that’s because the world taught them that.

Love reading, writing and research. I like it real and I give it as real as possible. Cooking is my therapy but writing helps me decompress in any situation.
